How the moving cost calculator works

The calculator applies the same formula we use internally for a first estimate. It starts with the volume of belongings, the single largest factor in the cost, because a studio load differs fundamentally from a villa in crew size, vehicle and hours. It then applies the destination factor: moves within Jeddah are priced on a fixed range, while intercity moves are calculated from the route price multiplied by a volume factor. It then adds the effect of floors without a lift, which increases working hours and effort by an estimated proportion per floor. Finally it adds the optional services: dismantling and reassembly calculated by number of rooms, full packing, air conditioners, an external hoist and storage. The output is a range rather than a single figure, because honest pricing in this trade is a range until a survey has been done. What the calculator cannot know is what only an inspection reveals: the actual number of items, the lift dimensions, the condition of the furniture and any special dismantling it needs, and street and parking conditions — which is precisely the job of the free survey.

What the calculator does and does not account for

Full transparency about the tool's limits so you do not build a decision on what it cannot see:

Accounts for: volume and destination

The two largest cost drivers. Volume determines crew size, vehicle and hours; destination determines distance, fuel, tolls and crew accommodation on longer routes.

Accounts for: floors and optional services

Floors without a lift add an estimated percentage each. Optional services — dismantling, packing, air conditioners, hoist and storage — are separate published lines you can switch on and off to see the effect of each.

Does not account for: the actual number of items

Two flats with the same number of rooms can hold very different quantities. A family settled for ten years owns several times what a household that moved in last year owns, and only an inspection reveals that difference.

Does not account for: site-specific conditions

Lift dimensions and stair width, the condition of the furniture and any special dismantling required, the distance from the truck's parking spot to the entrance, and access restrictions in gated compounds. These raise or lower the cost and are settled at the survey.

Why a range and not a single number?

Anyone giving you one final figure without a survey is guessing or will revise it later.

Moving is not a fixed-price product but a service whose cost depends on variable site conditions. Two flats with the same number of rooms can differ by hundreds of riyals: one on the ground floor with modern furniture that dismantles easily and a wide street with parking, the other on the fourth floor with no lift, heavy classic furniture and a narrow street where the truck stops fifty metres away. Anyone who gives you a firm final figure by phone before seeing your belongings is either guessing — and will ask for more on the day — or padding the price to cover the worst case, so you pay more than your situation warrants. A range is the honest form before a survey, which is why our calculator returns one. After the free survey the range becomes a single written figure that does not change whatever happens on the day.

    From estimate to final price

Four steps that turn the calculator's figure into a written commitment:

    Step 1

    Work out your estimate

Choose your volume, destination, floor and the services you want, and the estimated cost appears itemised immediately. Try switching services on and off to see the effect of each line on the total.

    Step 2

    Request the free survey

Send us the figure you were shown along with your address and we will arrange a site or video survey. It is entirely free, carries no obligation and we ask nothing for it.

    Step 3

    Receive the written quote

After the survey we send a written quote with a single final figure broken down by line, stating explicitly what it excludes. It usually falls within, or close to, the range the calculator showed.

    Step 4

Fix the date and move without surprises

The agreed price does not change on the day however long the work takes or whatever conditions emerge, because the responsibility for estimating correctly rests with us once we have surveyed, not with you.

Understanding what drives your moving cost

What makes one move dearer than another, and how to genuinely reduce your bill.

The five factors that set your moving price

The first and largest is volume, which determines crew size, vehicle and hours, and its effect exceeds all the others combined. The second is distance, a secondary factor within Jeddah because the gap between two districts is small next to labour cost, but the decisive factor between cities. The third is accessibility: the floor, whether the lift takes large items, and how far the truck can park from the entrance — a factor that surprises many customers, because carrying a flat's contents to a fourth floor with no lift can add a third to the cost. The fourth is the services required: transport alone is far cheaper than a package including dismantling, packing, reassembly and air conditioners. The fifth is timing: month-end peaks, the end of tenancy season and public holidays typically lift market prices by 10 to 20 per cent.

How to genuinely reduce your moving cost

Four proven methods that actually work. First and strongest: move less. Cost is driven principally by volume, and serious sorting before a move typically reduces it by 15 to 30 per cent, which flows straight to the invoice and can mean a smaller truck and fewer crew. Second: choose your timing intelligently; a mid-month move on an ordinary working morning is cheaper and faster than a Thursday at month end. Third: do what you can yourself; packing boxes and emptying wardrobes and drawers needs no expertise and reduces the crew's hours. Fourth: book early; booking two weeks ahead gives you room to compare and negotiate, while booking the day before forces you to accept whatever is available. There is a fifth many overlook: sell what you do not need, to us or to anyone else, and offset the proceeds against your invoice.

Why the final price may differ from the estimate

The calculator works from general inputs, and the ground reality contains details that move the figure in either direction. The final price may be lower than the estimate if your volume turns out to be below average for your property size, if your furniture is modern and quick to dismantle, or if both addresses are on the ground floor with close parking. It may be higher if the volume is above average, if items are found that need a hoist and were not counted, or if the streets do not allow the truck close access. Either way the difference is settled before execution rather than after: we survey, we calculate, we send a written figure, and you accept or decline. What never happens with us is a price change once work has started or after the furniture is loaded.

Comparing quotes: how to read the numbers properly

When you gather quotes from several companies, do not simply line up the totals and pick the lowest — that is a misleading comparison. The correct approach is to build a simple six-line table: transport and labour, dismantling and reassembly, packing materials, special services such as hoist and air conditioners, what the price explicitly excludes, and the guarantee terms. Then fill it in for each quote. You will usually find that the lowest headline figure omitted two or three lines you will pay for later, and that the quote which looked two hundred riyals dearer is genuinely better value. The exercise takes ten minutes and saves hundreds of riyals and a good deal of trouble. We will help you do it honestly: send us a quote you received elsewhere and we will explain what it omits and what it means.

When is the higher cost a sound investment?

Not always, and this candour matters. If you are moving simple, low-value furniture within one district, paying a large premium for multi-layer wrapping and photographic documentation may not be economically justified, and a budget service is reasonable for your case. But the higher cost becomes a sound investment in specific circumstances: when you are moving high-value furniture where a single item is worth more than the entire price difference; when the distance is long and the furniture faces ten hours of vibration; when you own sensitive appliances whose faults only appear weeks later; and when you have neither the time nor the ability to supervise the process yourself. In those cases a three-hundred-riyal difference in price protects items worth thousands, and the arithmetic clearly favours the fuller service.

    Before requesting the survey

Information that makes the survey faster and the quote more accurate:

Know your room and large-item counts

Have the number of bedrooms, wardrobes and large appliances to hand. These figures underpin the estimate, and knowing them before the survey shortens it and makes the quote accurate first time.

Check the floor and lift at both addresses

The floor and lift dimensions at both collection and delivery are among the biggest price factors. Verify them in advance, and measure the lift door width if you have a large wardrobe or fridge.

Decide which services you actually want

Decide in advance: will you pack yourself or should we? Do you need dismantling and reassembly or do you have someone for it? Do you want the air conditioners moved? Clarity on these prevents a quote inflated with services you do not need.

    Ask about timing and flexibility

If your date is flexible, say so. Flexibility can lower the cost noticeably, particularly on intercity moves where your date can be matched to a scheduled run.

    Mistakes in estimating moving costs

Common errors that produce an unrealistic budget:

Treating a phone estimate as a final price

A figure given by phone before seeing the belongings is provisional by nature however firmly it is stated. Do not build your budget on it or treat it as binding; treat it as a range until you have a written quote following a survey.

    Forgetting the additional service lines

Many people budget only for transport and overlook dismantling, packing, air conditioners and the rest, then find the invoice well above their estimate. Count everything you will genuinely need from the outset.

Ignoring the cost of floors without a lift

Carrying a whole flat's contents to a fourth floor with no lift can add a third to the cost, and it is a genuine line reflecting real hours and effort. Ignoring it makes the budget unrealistic from the start.

    Booking late at month end

Booking a day or two ahead at the end of the month means accepting whatever is available at whatever price with no comparison. Prices in that window run 10 to 20 per cent higher with fewer options. Book two weeks ahead for a fair price.

    Using the calculator more accurately

How to get an estimate as close as possible to reality.

Choose the larger size if you are unsure

If your flat has three bedrooms but its contents are extensive and long-accumulated, select the four-bedroom option. Estimating slightly high gives you a realistic budget and avoids surprises, whereas an optimistic estimate produces a figure reality will exceed.

    Try different scenarios

Run the calculator once with every service selected and once with transport only, so you can see clearly what each additional service costs. That supports a considered decision: you might choose to pack the boxes yourself and leave dismantling to us, or the reverse.

Work out the floor cost before renting a new home

If you are still house-hunting, knowing that a fourth-floor flat with no lift raises your moving cost by roughly a third may influence your decision, especially since the cost recurs when you eventually move out again.

Frequently asked questions about estimating moving costs

Answers on the calculator's accuracy and its limits:

No, it is an indicative figure based on our published rate tables. A binding price is only issued after a free survey, which produces a written quote with a single final figure that does not change on the day.

SAR 500 to 900 for transport and labour, plus SAR 150 to 300 per bedroom for dismantling and reassembly and SAR 300 to 550 for full packing. Use the calculator above to price your own case with the services you need.

Because two flats with the same number of rooms can differ by hundreds of riyals depending on contents, furniture condition, floor and street access. A range is the honest form before a survey, and it becomes a single figure afterwards.

Yes. Choose your city from the destination list and the cost is calculated from that route's price multiplied by your volume factor, using the same figures published on our intercity moving page.

The strongest method is moving less through serious sorting, since cost follows volume. Then choosing a time outside the month-end peak, packing boxes yourself, booking early, and selling what you do not need to offset against the invoice.

Yes, entirely free and without obligation, on site or by video call. We ask nothing for it and it does not commit you to booking with us. It ends with a written quote you can compare with others at your leisure.

An estimate is a tool; the survey is the commitment

Why we publish our own numbers in a tool you can use yourself.

Most of the search for a moving company in Jeddah is spent on one repeated question: how much will it cost me? The usual pattern is that a customer leaves their number with five companies, receives scattered calls quoting widely differing figures with no explanation, and then chooses on an unclear basis. We wanted to break that cycle by publishing our own numbers in a tool you can use yourself whenever you like, without leaving your phone number or waiting for a reply. The calculator applies the formula we use internally and shows you an itemised breakdown rather than an opaque total, so you can see what transport alone costs, what dismantling and reassembly adds and what packing adds, and decide with full knowledge what you actually need. But we are open about its natural limit: the calculator cannot see your belongings, does not know how much you have accumulated in a store room over ten years, cannot measure your lift door and cannot see that a large truck will not enter your street. Those things are only established by inspection, which is why the free survey remains the step that converts an estimate into a written commitment. Work out your estimate now, then request a free, no-obligation survey to have the figure fixed in writing before you decide.
