Small volume, fixed budget

Student accommodation movers in Jeddah

Moving a student room is not a miniature house move. The furniture is limited and usually comes apart, but the conditions are entirely different: the budget is fixed, the timing is compressed into the end of term, the accommodation is often a room in a shared flat rather than a whole unit, and many students need their things stored for the summer rather than transported at all. This page deals with exactly that situation, with real prices in SAR.

What a student move usually contains

A realistic list that sets the vehicle, the crew and the price.

In most cases the contents are a single or double bed, a desk and chair, a small or medium wardrobe, a compact fridge, and cartons of clothes and books. Sometimes a small washing machine, a microwave or a television is added.

That volume does not need a large truck or a crew of five. A pickup or small van with two crew is usually enough, and that is exactly why it sits in the lowest band of the price list.

  • Individual items (bed, desk, small wardrobe): SAR 80 to 250 inside Jeddah.
  • A full room or studio: SAR 350 to 600 including dismantling and reassembly.
  • A two-bedroom shared flat: SAR 500 to 900 if the whole flat is moving.

The pickup option is set out on the pickup moving page, and the full list on the moving cost page.

Timing: why to book two weeks ahead

End of term is the tightest window in the Jeddah moving market.

Students all move in roughly the same window — the final days of term. In those days market prices rise and the preferred date becomes hard to get, not through opportunism but because demand genuinely doubles against a fixed number of vehicles and crews.

1

Two weeks ahead: book

Fix the date even if you are not yet sure of the exact hour you leave.

2

One week ahead: sort

Decide what travels with you, what goes into storage, and what goes entirely.

3

Three days ahead: pack

Clothes and books into sealed, labelled cartons.

4

The day before: appliances

Disconnect and dry the small fridge, and drain the washing machine.

5

Moving day: execute

The crew arrives on time and the job usually finishes in two to four hours.

Booking early on its own can save you a two-day wait at peak, and it is the single largest saving available on this kind of move.

Summer storage instead of transport

The option most students overlook.

Many students leave Jeddah for the summer and return for the next term. Transporting furniture to another city and bringing it back three months later costs roughly twice what storing it in Jeddah does.

Monthly storage for one room starts at SAR 150, so three summer months can cost less than a single intercity trip. The furniture stays wrapped throughout and is delivered to whatever address you give on your return.

Stored volumeMonthly rent (SAR)
One to two rooms150 – 300
A full flat of furniture250 – 450
A villa of furniture400 – 800

Storage is billed monthly under a written agreement, and warehouse access is by appointment.

Preparation before storage — above all drying the compact fridge completely — is covered on the preparing for storage page.

A room inside a shared flat

Moving part of a home rather than all of it.

If you rent a room in a flat shared with others, the move covers your room and your share of the common areas only. This needs to be clear before the day, so that moving morning does not turn into a discussion about who owns what.

🏷️

Mark your things

Label what is yours before the crew arrives, especially in the kitchen and storeroom.

🤝

Tell your flatmates

A move means traffic in the hallway and entrance; a word beforehand prevents friction.

🔑

Arrange the key handover

With the landlord or your flatmate, ideally after your things are out rather than before.

We run partial moves the same way as full ones: dismantling and wrapping for your items only, and we never touch anyone elses belongings.

How to genuinely reduce the cost

Three free steps that visibly lower the bill.

Students benefit most from preparation, because the volume is small so the proportional effect of good preparation is larger.

  • Pack yourself: clothes, books and kitchenware in sealed cartons before the crew arrives.
  • Sort ruthlessly: old course books and broken items are not worth a transport fee.
  • Choose a midweek day rather than a weekend, when demand is lower and scheduling is easier.
  • Share a trip with a flatmate moving the same day to a nearby area where possible.

Correct self-packing is set out step by step on the packing guide.

What not to carry yourself

Even on a small move, some pieces do not forgive improvisation.

Students are usually young and physically capable, and that is precisely what leads to carrying things that should not be carried alone. Three items cause most of the injuries and damage on student moves.

🧊

The compact fridge

Light, but tilting it damages the compressor — see the fridge guide.

🛏️

The bed base

Heavy and unbalanced; carrying it alone on stairs is the leading cause of back injuries.

📺

The television

Carried upright in a carton. Laid flat in a private car the panel cracks with no visible impact.

Cartons, books and clothes are a different matter entirely — move those yourself, and that is where the real saving sits.

Moving out of Jeddah after graduation

What makes sense once the course ends.

At graduation the question changes: a full relocation to another city. A pickup will not do, and the real comparison is between transporting the furniture and selling it to buy replacements.

The practical rule: if your furniture is under three years old and in good condition, transporting it is usually cheaper than replacing it. If it is second-hand and was bought cheaply, selling it in Jeddah and buying again in the new city costs less.

  • Compare the transport cost against the furniture current value, not its purchase price.
  • Small appliances are almost always worth transporting; they are compact and worth more than the fee.
  • Books and clothes travel with you in every scenario.

Intercity pages give prices and timings for each route, such as Jeddah to Riyadh and Jeddah to Makkah.

University-managed and private accommodation

The constraints come from the management, not the volume.

If you live in accommodation run by an institution or in a managed residential compound, the move is governed by their rules: set hours for entry and exit, a prior permit for the vehicle, and sometimes a condition that the room is returned in a specified state before you leave.

Private accommodation rented directly from an owner has fewer restrictions, but raises another question: the refundable deposit and the requirement to return the room as received. In both cases an agreement beforehand settles what is hard to settle on the day.

  • Ask the accommodation office about permitted moving hours before choosing your date with us.
  • Request a vehicle entry permit two days ahead if the site is gated.
  • Photograph the room before and after your things are removed; it is the best evidence in any dispute.
  • Agree to hand the key over after your belongings are out, not before.

We send crew names and vehicle plate numbers in advance whenever accommodation management asks for them, at no cost to you.

Booking in five minutes

No survey and no paperwork needed.

1

Two photos of your room

One wide shot and one of the appliances if you have any.

2

State the floor and the lift

At both ends — the biggest factor after volume.

3

Give your date

And ideally a second possible date, for scheduling flexibility at peak.

4

A written quote comes back the same day and holds.

An on-site survey is free if you prefer one, with no obligation. If you are moving within the same district, the short-distance moving page is a better and cheaper fit.
