Furniture Moving in Al Farouk District, Jeddah

Yes, we cover Al Farouk. It sits in the southern sector of Jeddah and is largely apartment blocks, which means most of what goes wrong on moving day has nothing to do with wooden furniture. It is the white goods — the washing machine, the fridge, the freezer — that get damaged, and almost always for reasons that were avoidable. We send an appliance technician with the crew on the same appointment, and you get a written price after a free survey before anyone touches a single item.

Where Al Farouk sits, and why that matters on the day

Location is not filler here. It decides how many trips you pay for.

Al Farouk is in south Jeddah. Its close neighbours include Al Adl, Al Waziriyah and Al Montazahat. For most tenants this is good news: a move that starts in Al Farouk usually ends somewhere in the same southern sector, which is one short run rather than a full day crossing the city.

Prince Jalawi bin Abdulaziz Street runs through the district, and most of the apartment listings you will see for Al Farouk are on or near it. The side streets branching off it are narrower, and parked cars line both sides for most of the day. That matters more than it sounds: if the truck cannot stop near the entrance, every item is carried further, the job takes longer, and the quote reflects it.

Housing is mainly apartment blocks, with residential plots still being built on the edges of the district. A good number of the older blocks either have no lift or have one too small for a double-door fridge. This is the first thing we ask about on the phone, because on its own it can change the size of the crew.

  • Start early. Loading before 9am avoids the worst of the side-street congestion.
  • Photograph the building entrance and the lift and send them on WhatsApp — it answers half the survey questions.
  • If you are moving within the southern sector, say so. A short run is usually priced lower.

White goods: the washing machine, the fridge and the freezer

This is the part that costs people money in Al Farouk, and it is entirely preventable.

An automatic washing machine has a drum suspended on springs and counterweights. Move it without locking that drum and it slams against the casing at every bump in the road. The result is either a cracked bearing or a leak that only shows up after the first wash in your new flat. The fix is simple: the transit bolts that shipped with the machine go back into the holes at the rear before it is lifted, and the drain hose and the filter at the base are emptied so leftover water does not run out into the truck and over everything else.

A fridge is a different problem. Its compressor runs in oil, and tilting it too far lets that oil migrate into the cooling circuit. So we carry fridges upright wherever possible, keep any unavoidable tilt modest and on the correct side, and then leave the fridge standing and switched off in the new flat long enough for the oil to settle before it is plugged in. Switching it on the moment it arrives is the single most expensive mistake people make on moving day, and it is the one we warn about most often.

Chest freezers, window air conditioners and electric water heaters each have their own rule. A freezer is unplugged a full day ahead, left to defrost and dried out inside. A water heater is drained completely before it is detached, because full it weighs several times what it weighs empty — and that is how backs get injured. The rest of the appliance detail is on our appliance moving page.

Water heater

Fully drained before detaching, for weight and for leaks.

If your appliances are still under warranty, keep the original cartons if you still have them. Some agents in Saudi Arabia will only honour a warranty after a move if the unit travelled in its manufacturer packaging.

What a move from Al Farouk costs

The same published price list we use everywhere in Jeddah. No district surcharge.

Our pricing is driven by volume, the number of floors and whether there is a working lift — not by the name of the district or how far south it is. The table below is the reference, and the final figure is written down after the free survey and does not change afterwards.

How the day runs, step by step

1

Free survey

We visit, or you send photos and a video on WhatsApp. We count the items and appliances and the floors, then send a written quote.

2

Booking and parking

We agree the date, and ask you to hold a parking space at the entrance so the carry distance stays short.

3

Dismantling and packing

The carpenter starts with bedrooms and wardrobes while the appliance technician prepares the washer, fridge and heater.

4

Loading

Heaviest at the bottom, appliances upright and strapped to the wall of the truck.

5

Transport

Closed truck, routed to avoid the narrow side streets at peak hours.

6

Unloading and reassembly

Furniture is reassembled in its final position, the washer and heater are reconnected, the fridge is left to stand.

7

Handover

We walk the inventory with you item by item, and we do not close the job until you sign that everything arrived intact.

Packing: what we use and why

Packing is not cardboard and tape. We use foam on corners and gloss surfaces, heavy blankets on wardrobes and majlis seating, stretch film wrapped around whole items so nothing rubs against anything else in transit, and double-walled cartons for crockery and glass.

Plates and glassware are wrapped individually and stacked on edge rather than flat. A plate standing on its edge survives vibration far better than one lying down — this is not folklore, it is how the load path works. Mirrors and screens are foam-wrapped, then boxed, then carried upright and strapped, and nothing is ever laid on top of them however light it looks.

Every carton is numbered and labelled with the room it belongs to in the new flat. That one step is the difference between unpacking in two hours and spending a week hunting for things. The materials are described in more detail on our packing services page.

Dismantling and reassembly

Dismantling is a service in its own right and can be booked on its own if you are moving yourself. Our carpenter numbers each panel and seals its screws in a bag taped to that panel, so nothing goes missing between the two flats.

Aluminium kitchens and sliding wardrobes are what suffer most from careless dismantling, because both depend on the frame staying square. Once a sliding wardrobe frame is out of square, the doors never run properly again. Details are on our dismantling and assembly page.

Short-term storage for Al Farouk tenants

Plenty of tenants here move between two leases that do not line up — the new one starts a week or two after the old one ends. Rather than paying a month of rent on a flat you will not live in, we store the contents in a closed warehouse and deliver them on the date you set.

Stored volumeMonthly rent (SAR)
One to two rooms150 – 300
A full flat of furniture250 – 450
A villa of furniture400 – 800

Storage is billed monthly under a written agreement, and warehouse access is by appointment.

Everything is packed before it goes into storage, not after, and items are raised off the floor on wooden pallets. More on our Jeddah storage page.

Mistakes we see every week in Al Farouk flats

Four of them, and all four cost less than a minute to avoid.

  • Plugging the fridge in as soon as it arrives. Wait for the compressor oil to settle. Impatience here is the most expensive error of the day.
  • Moving the washing machine without its transit bolts. They are usually filed with the appliance paperwork. Find them the week before, not on the morning.
  • Not holding a parking space. The side streets fill up. Every extra ten metres of carry is time, and time is cost.
  • Leaving the air conditioner to the last day. Removing a split unit needs an AC technician who pumps the refrigerant down first — it is not a job for a removals labourer.

And the fifth, less obvious one: signing the handover before you have opened the cartons and checked the bedrooms are reassembled. We do not close a job until you have seen every item in place, and that is written into the agreement rather than offered as a favour.

A checklist for the week before

Seven things you do yourself that save the crew two hours on the day.

Most delays on moving day are not caused by the crew. They are caused by small things nobody prepared: a missing key, a tenant who has not vacated, a fridge still full of food. The order below is the one we recommend specifically for Al Farouk, because the blocks here usually share a single entrance between several flats.

  • Seven days out: tell the building caretaker or owners association the date, and book the entrance and the lift if there is one.
  • Five days out: find the washing machine transit bolts and the appliance warranty papers and keep them together.
  • Three days out: start running down the freezer rather than throwing food away on the day.
  • Two days out: unplug the freezer, let it defrost and dry it inside.
  • The day before: empty and clean the fridge, and put documents, medication, jewellery and small valuables in a bag that travels with you, not on the truck.
  • Moving morning: secure the parking space and clear the path from the flat door to the lift.
  • At handover: do not sign until the washer and heater have been tested and the bedrooms are standing.

Papers, gold and small expensive electronics always travel in your own car. This is not about trust — it is standard practice. What never goes into the truck can never go missing from it.
