Van Moving Services in Al Shati, Jeddah
Al Shati sits on the Red Sea coast facing King Abdullah Road, with Al Murjan, Al Mohammadiyah and Al Zahra alongside it. Van hire starts at SAR 80. In this district the hour you book matters more than the rate you negotiate, and this page explains why.
Serviced apartments and short leases: the job we see most
Al Shati has a high share of furnished and serviced units, and that shapes what people actually need moving.
A furnished lease comes with the heavy items already in place. What tenants accumulate over a year or two is a different set: a desk, a wardrobe bought separately, bikes, a washing machine, boxes of books, a child bed. When the lease ends, that is what has to go, and it is a van job, not a truck job.
The same pattern runs in reverse when someone arrives. The flat has a sofa and a bed, and the tenant buys three or four pieces in the first month. Each is a single collection and carry-up, and paying full crew rates for it is waste.
Where this goes wrong is at the end of a long stay, when people underestimate how much has accumulated. If you have been in the unit more than two years, send photographs of every room before you assume a van will do it in one run. Two van trips cost more than one closed truck.
Prices in SAR, and what actually moves them
Rates are the same across Jeddah. There is no Corniche premium.
| Move size | Estimated price (SAR) | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Pickup / single items | 80 – 250 | One or two pieces inside Jeddah, loading and unloading |
| Studio or single room | 350 – 600 | Dismantling, packing, loading, transport, reassembly |
| Two-bedroom flat | 500 – 900 | Full crew with a closed truck |
| Three-bedroom flat | 800 – 1,400 | Larger crew and extended packing |
| Four to five bedrooms | 1,200 – 1,900 | Sometimes two days depending on floors |
| Small villa | 1,500 – 2,500 | More than one truck and an extended crew |
| Large villa | 2,500 – 4,000 | Scheduled over two days with full packing |
Prices are estimates and are fixed after a free survey. The agreed figure is written down before work starts and does not change afterwards.
A single-item van run is the first row. What can be added in Al Shati, always as a separate named line, is a crane lift where a piece will not fit through the building, extra labour for stair carries in older blocks without a goods lift, or an out-of-hours slot if you insist on one against our advice.
Dismantling is quoted apart from transport: SAR 150 to 300 for a bedroom, SAR 100 to 250 for a sliding or flat-pack wardrobe, SAR 200 to 400 for an aluminium kitchen, SAR 400 to 900 for a whole apartment package. The survey is free and the written price does not change afterwards unless you ask it to.
Parking on the Corniche: the slots we turn down
We would rather decline a bad hour than accept it and arrive late.
The waterfront and the large malls around Al Shati pull heavy traffic from late afternoon onwards, and far more at weekends and on event days. In those hours a goods van cannot stand near the entrance, and getting back out after loading takes time nobody has priced in.
So we hold a rule specific to this district: no weekend evening loading except for a single item inside Al Shati. Everything else is offered a weekday morning instead, with the reason stated rather than a promise we cannot keep.
- Weekday mornings: always the first choice here
- Late morning: workable with parking arranged in advance
- Weekday afternoons: fine for small single-item runs
- Thursday and Friday evenings: normally declined for full moves
- Waterfront event days: rescheduled, and we tell you before you book
This is not a sales policy. A badly chosen hour in Al Shati adds one to two hours to a job, and at most companies that time reappears as a line on your invoice.
Van, closed truck or crane: by building type
In Al Shati the building decides more than the volume does.
| Your situation | Van enough? | What you actually need |
|---|---|---|
| Single item inside the district | Yes | — |
| Flat in an older block with no goods lift | Partly | Extra labour for the stair carry |
| Sea-facing tower, oversized pieces | Often no | Crane lift from the balcony, then a vehicle |
| Villa in Al Shati | No | Several vehicles, booked in advance |
| Appliances only | Yes | Upright fixing, straps and a tight cover |
| Move within the same building | Yes | Usually no vehicle at all |
Common patterns in this district. Your free survey, not this table, settles your case.
Note the last row. A real share of Al Shati jobs never need a vehicle, because they are inside one building. Those are priced as labour and reassembly only, and quoting them as a transport job would overcharge you.
Crane lifts from sea-facing balconies
A van moves things between two addresses. It does not solve getting the thing out of the flat.
Some sea-facing towers here have stairwells and lifts that will not pass a one-piece majlis sofa, a wardrobe that does not dismantle, or a large dining table. At that point the question is not which vehicle, but how the piece leaves the apartment at all.
The answer is a crane lift from the balcony, then loading onto a van or a closed vehicle depending on what the item is. It is a separate service with its own cost, it needs written permission from building management, and it needs clear, safe ground below. None of that can be judged from a photograph alone.
We raise it early for a practical reason. A customer who books a van and then discovers on the day that the sofa will not fit through the door loses the whole day. A free survey catches that before the booking, not after it.
Salt air and humidity: the honest version
Being near the sea affects specific things. Claiming it affects everything would be a sales line.
The air along the Corniche is humid and carries salt. Over a short trip this does nothing measurable to wood or upholstery, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling wrapping you do not need.
What genuinely is affected on an open bed: unpainted metal parts, and the hinges, bolts and fittings of dismantled furniture. Those we bag, seal and label by item rather than leaving them loose in the van, and we wrap exposed metal in stretch film. It takes two minutes and prevents both surface rust and the far more common problem, which is losing the fittings entirely.
The tarpaulin, pulled tight and anchored on four corners, is mandatory here for a different reason: wind, not salt.
Service streets behind the Corniche and vehicle size
Not every address in Al Shati can be reached by a full-size van.
Behind the waterfront there are narrow internal service streets, and some buildings have their entrance on those rather than on the main road. A large van may not be able to turn or stand there without blocking traffic, which turns into a distant park and a long carry.
At the survey we ask which street the entrance is actually on, not which district you are in. Where access is tight we send a smaller vehicle and add a run, or use a trolley for the stretch between the door and the van, and we put that in the quote beforehand.
An estimate built on a district name and an estimate built on a street name are the difference between a price that holds and a price that moves on the day.
Moving with children or pets on a Corniche weekend
A practical point that rarely appears on moving company pages, and should.
Families moving in or out of Al Shati often plan the move for a weekend because of work. That is the worst combination here: the hardest parking of the week, a crew working longer, and children or pets in a half-empty flat with the door propped open for hours.
If a weekday is impossible, the workable compromise is an early Saturday start and a plan for where the children and animals will be, ideally not in either apartment. Tell us at the survey and we sequence the rooms so one space stays intact and closed until the end.
Pets in particular should not be in the flat while furniture moves through a propped door. This is the single most common cause of a lost cat on moving day, and it is entirely preventable with one closed room.

The lines that are quoted separately from the van itself.
If the job turns out to be a whole apartment rather than a handful of pieces, start at furniture moving in Al Shati, which covers full flat and villa moves in this district. For the complete rate card across every size of move, see home moving services in Jeddah.
Air conditioning units come up constantly in sea-facing flats, and dismantling and reassembly work is always quoted apart from transport. Where the lift cannot be used for loading or the floor is high, moving without a lift explains how a stair carry is measured and why it appears as its own line.
For the neighbouring coastal district with a similar building mix, see van moving services in Al Murjan. If there is a gap between handing back one unit and taking the next, furniture storage in Jeddah sets out the monthly rates and collection terms.
All of it is booked on one number and appears on a single written quote, rather than as separate invoices you have to reconcile yourself.
Frequently asked questions
SAR 80 to 250 for single items, the same as anywhere in Jeddah. The final price is written down after a free survey.
Corniche traffic at those hours makes it impossible to park a goods van near the entrance, and it adds an hour or more to the job. We offer a weekday morning instead.
When a piece will not pass the door, stairwell or lift, such as a one-piece majlis sofa or a wardrobe that does not dismantle. It is a separate service and needs building permission.
Not over a short trip, for wood or fabric. Unpainted metal, hinges and fittings do react, so we bag, label and wrap those.
No. Some entrances are on narrow internal service streets. We send a smaller vehicle or add a run, and state it in the quote in advance.
No. That needs a closed vehicle and a full crew, estimated at SAR 500 to 900.
Usually not. Those jobs are priced as labour, dismantling and reassembly only.
Yes. Send pictures of the items, the entrance and the corridor, plus the floor and building name, and you get a written price.
Yes, and it carries no obligation. You receive an itemised written quote and may decline it.
No. The written price stands unless you request a change. That is exactly why we are strict about choosing the slot.
