Nursery and florist relocation

Plant Nursery and Florist Movers in Jeddah

Living stock will not wait, and a parked truck in Jeddah sun is an oven. We start before sunrise and unload before the heat arrives.

What it costs and why the hour matters more than the price

A small florist shop in Jeddah moves for SAR 500 to 900. A mid-sized shop with a display chiller and a back store is SAR 800 to 1,400. An open nursery, with its shade structure and stock, runs SAR 1,200 to 1,900 and above depending on pot count and area. Single items are SAR 80 to 250.

But the price is not the critical variable here, the timing is. Any other business we move can start at nine in the morning without consequence. A nursery cannot. Living plants inside a stationary truck under Jeddah sun lose water within the hour, and some species wilt in a way that does not reverse. So every nursery move we plan begins with one question: what time do we start?

Why dawn is the right hour

The first operating rule of a nursery relocation.

We move nurseries and florists before sunrise or after sunset, never through the middle of the day. The reason is simple: the temperature inside a closed body standing in the sun runs well above the outside air, and plants left in it for an hour or two come out different from how they went in.

In practice that means the crew arrives at four or five in the morning, loading begins with first light, and unloading finishes before the sun has any strength. The alternative is a fully nocturnal move, which suits an enclosed shop but is harder at an open nursery because of lighting.

In either case the truck never stands loaded and waiting. What is loaded is driven, and what is driven is unloaded. On an ordinary furniture move a truck can wait an hour. On a plant move it cannot.

Pots and plants: the loading order

Living stock goes in last and comes out first, always.

🌱

Seedlings and trays

Carried in open trays or open-topped boxes, packed tightly so nothing shifts. Never under a sealed lid, because trapped heat and humidity ruin them.

🪴

Medium pots

Soil is secured with a plastic collar around the base of the stem so it does not spill. Pots travel touching each other, because that contact is what stops them tipping.

🌴

Palms and large trees

Transported lying down with the trunk padded at its bearing point, and the crown covered with shade mesh rather than plastic. Plastic traps heat and scorches the fronds.

💐

Cut flowers

Only in a refrigerated vehicle or in insulated boxes with cool packs, loaded last and unloaded first without exception.

🪨

Empty clay pots

Heavy and fragile at once. Stacked inverted with cardboard between layers and never more than three layers high.

🧪

Fertilisers and treatments

In separate sealed boxes, upright, well away from plants and tools, and never left standing in the sun.

Shade structures and steel frames

The skeleton of an open nursery.

  • Shade mesh is released from its edges rather than cut, and rolled onto a tube rather than folded, because folding breaks the threads at the creases.
  • Steel frames come apart into posts and beams, are strapped into matching bundles, and are numbered.
  • Bolts and connectors go into one closed box, not into scattered bags that disappear.
  • Ground-fixed bases are unbolted; where they are set into concrete they are left behind and replaced with new bases.
  • Photograph the structure from several angles before dismantling — it is the only reference you will have for the rebuild.

Irrigation and equipment

The part that gets forgotten and then bought again for no reason.

Drip irrigation in a nursery can usually be dismantled and reused, but it takes patience: hoses are wound onto reels rather than dragged, emitters are collected into boxes by type, and valves and filters are removed, dried and wrapped.

The pump is the critical item. It is electrically isolated, drained of water and transported upright, because residual water migrates into the electrical section if it is tilted. A submersible pump in a tank needs a technician to remove it rather than a loader.

Plastic tanks are emptied, rinsed and always moved empty. A half-full tank shifts its contents in transit and displaces everything around it, and that is one of the more common causes of incidents in nursery moves.

The flower chiller

The most valuable single item in a florist.

A glass-fronted flower chiller is treated as a display case and a refrigeration unit at the same time. It is emptied, switched off several hours ahead so any ice melts and the water is wiped out, and then moved strictly upright. Tilting a refrigeration unit carries compressor oil into the wrong places.

After it is placed at the new address it stands untouched for several hours before being switched on, not powered up the moment it lands. Those hours are the difference between a compressor that runs for years and one that is replaced within a month.

The glass doors get foam on the edges then stiff card, and the internal shelves come out and are wrapped separately.

Counters and display shelving

The fitted furniture of a florist.

Disassembly includes reassembly at the new address.

Arrangement counters and timber shelving are dismantled with numbered panels. See carpentry services.

What does not travel

Being honest here saves you money and time.

Not everything in a nursery is worth moving. Loose soil in open beds is not moved — buying it at the new site costs far less than transporting it, and its weight consumes a whole truck for nothing. Plants rooted directly in the ground are only lifted as a deliberate decision, because survival depends on the species, the root ball and the season.

Cracked or chipped clay pots do not travel, and neither does perishing shade mesh or hardened hose. Sorting a week ahead typically removes a whole trip from a mid-sized nursery.

And the advice we always give: if you have a small number of rare or high-value specimens, carry them in your own vehicle — exactly as we ask photographers to carry their lenses.

Storage, and what cannot be stored

Equipment yes, living stock no.

Volume storedMonthly rate in SAR
One to two rooms150 – 300
Apartment contents250 – 450
Villa contents400 – 800

Monthly billing, suitable for furniture, frames, shade mesh and equipment.

We will say it plainly: living plants are not stored in a warehouse. If the new site is not ready, arrange a shaded and irrigated holding area for the stock and store everything else with us. See short-term storage.

The first two hours after unloading

What happens after arrival matters more than the drive.

  • Put the plants in shade immediately, before arranging anything else, even if the site is untidy.
  • Water everything that moved on the same day; transport costs a plant water even when it looks fine.
  • Do not put stock that lived under shade mesh into direct sun — reintroduce it gradually over several days.
  • Rebuild the shade structure before the furniture at an open nursery, because it is protection rather than decoration.
  • Check clay pots one by one; hairline cracks only show after the first watering.

Nursery and florist relocation questions

What nursery and shop owners ask us.

SAR 500 to 900 for a small shop and SAR 800 to 1,400 for a mid-sized one with a chiller and a store, after a free survey.

Because the inside of a truck body in the sun runs far hotter than the outside air and living stock will not tolerate it. The coolest hours protect the plants.

Yes, lying down with the trunk padded and the crown covered in shade mesh rather than plastic, because plastic traps heat.

In a refrigerated vehicle or insulated boxes with cool packs, loaded last and unloaded first.

Yes, emptied and switched off hours in advance, strictly upright, and not powered up until it has stood for several hours.

Yes. The mesh is released from its edges and rolled on a tube, and the steel frame is dismantled, numbered and bundled.

We advise against it. The weight consumes a whole truck and buying it at the new site costs much less.

Hoses onto reels, emitters sorted by type. The pump is isolated, drained and moved upright; a submersible needs a technician.

No. Living stock is not warehoused. We store furniture, frames and equipment, and recommend a shaded irrigated area for the plants.

Yes, by visit or WhatsApp video, and the written price does not change afterwards.
