Wathab Jeddah — moving and storage

Furniture moving in Al Bashaer district, Jeddah

Al Bashaer is a villa and plot district in north Jeddah, and what holds moves up here is rarely distance. It is the pieces that will not go up the stairs: oversized majlis seating, wardrobes that cannot be dismantled, heavy safes. Wathab lifts them externally with the facade protected, at a written price after a free survey.

Where Al Bashaer is and what it is built of

Al Bashaer lies in north Jeddah, within the band of districts extending towards the Usfan road, with Al Furusiyah, Al Rahmaniyah and Al Falah among its better-known neighbours. It is low-density residential: villas, floor units and plots still under construction, and Al Sharif Abu Numay Street is one of its recognised roads.

That character means the items being moved are larger than in apartment districts. Separate men’s and women’s majlis seating, dining tables for ten or more, generous bedroom sets. Internal villa staircases, meanwhile, tend to be narrow relative to those pieces, and internal lifts are rare in most of the stock.

So a good number of moves here include at least one item that cannot physically come out of, or go into, the door. That is where external lifting starts to matter.

When a hoist is the right answer, not an expensive extra

The rule is straightforward. If the item is wider than the narrowest point on its route, you have three options and no fourth: dismantle it, lift it from outside, or damage it. Forcing it is the third option, whatever anyone intended.

✓

One-piece majlis sofas

Large Arabic seating is usually built on a single timber frame that does not come apart. It is wider than most internal doors, so it goes out through a balcony or window.

✓

Fixed wardrobes

Some older timber wardrobes are glued rather than screwed, and dismantling destroys them. External lifting keeps them intact.

✓

Steel safes

The weight makes a staircase dangerous for the crew and for the balustrade at the same time.

✓

Large glass and mirrors

Any sharp tilt at a stair turn breaks them. A straight vertical lift carries far less risk.

How an external lift is carried out

External lifting is an ordered procedure, not improvisation. These are the steps the crew follows every time:

1

Measure the item and the opening

Width and height of the item against the window or balcony opening, and a decision on whether a leaf or shutter needs removing.

2

Secure the ground below

The area under the lift path is cleared and kept clear, with no vehicles parked and nobody walking through while work is underway.

3

Wrap and strap

Full wrapping in blankets and stretch film, then strapping from several points so the item cannot tilt on the way up.

4

Lift and receive inside

A slow, even lift with a crew inside taking the item through the opening, then unstrapping and placing it in its final position.

Once the lift is finished the window leaf or shutter goes back and the condition is checked with the owner before the crew leaves the site.

Small villa1,500 – 2,500

Rates cover basic dismantling and assembly, packing, loading, unloading and transport within Jeddah. The need for an external hoist is assessed during the survey and appears in the written price before work begins.

Wrapping majlis seating and oversized pieces

Large pieces are not only damaged by impacts. Sustained rubbing during carrying and transit does just as much, which is why they are wrapped differently from the rest of the load.

  • A full blanket around the piece first — stretch film directly on upholstery leaves marks and traps moisture.
  • Cushions and backrests strapped separately and numbered, since they are the first things to get mixed up between sets.
  • Reinforced card on timber legs, which are what break most often when a piece is set down.
  • Majlis seating loaded last and unloaded first, to limit the time it spends under the weight of other items.
  • Glass tables kept entirely separate from upholstered pieces inside the truck.

Dismantling and assembly in villas

Dismantling properly reduces the need for a hoist and shortens the day, and it is carried out by a joiner rather than by a general mover.

Dismantling and assembly prices (SAR)
WorkPrice
Full bedroom set150 – 300
Sliding or IKEA wardrobe100 – 250
Aluminium kitchen200 – 400
Whole-apartment package400 – 900

During the survey we decide which pieces are dismantled and which are lifted externally, so nothing is taken apart that could have travelled intact.

Temporary storage during the move

Monthly storage prices (SAR)
Load sizePer month
One to two rooms150 – 300
Full apartment250 – 450
Villa-sized load400 – 800

Items are listed and numbered on intake and you can collect part of the load before the rest.

In villa districts the gap before a final move-in often stretches, or an owner needs to empty a whole floor for maintenance. Storage covers both without anyone paying for an extra month of rent somewhere else.

Site and crew safety during a lift

External lifting is safe when it is run with discipline and dangerous when it is improvised. These conditions are not negotiable on any site in the district:

  • The area beneath the lift path is cleared completely and kept closed until the item is inside.
  • Items are strapped from multiple points and never suspended from a single edge, however light they look.
  • The crew member above receives the item from inside the room, never from the balcony edge.
  • Work stops immediately in strong wind, because large pieces behave like sails.
  • The condition of the facade and window is recorded before and after in front of the owner.

If an external lift is not possible

Not every site allows a hoist. The street may be too narrow for the base, the window may overlook ground that cannot be secured, or overhead power lines may block access. In those cases we do not simply walk away:

  • Full dismantling where feasible: a joiner takes the piece apart and reassembles it inside.
  • A different route in: a rear or courtyard door is sometimes wider than the main entrance.
  • Removing a door leaf or frame: a simple step that can add the centimetres you need.
  • Rethinking placement: putting the large piece in a ground-floor room instead, if that works for you.

We tell you which option is viable and what it costs before starting, and we never attempt anything that could damage the item or the building without your explicit agreement.

Frequently asked questions about moving in Al Bashaer

When the item will not pass the staircase or the door: a one-piece majlis sofa, a large wardrobe that cannot be dismantled, a steel safe, or oversized glass. Lifting it externally is faster and far safer than forcing it through.

A small villa is SAR 1,500 to 2,500 and a large villa SAR 2,500 to 4,000, with the final figure written after a free survey.

Not when it is done properly. We remove the shutter or window leaf where needed, fit guards on the sill and rail, and strap the item from several points before any lift begins.

Where it can be dismantled, yes — removing legs, backs and arms reduces the bulk considerably. Pieces built on a single frame cannot be taken apart, and those are exactly the ones that need the hoist.

It depends on the number of rooms and floors and whether any items need external lifting. The expected duration is set during the survey and stated with the written price.
