Studio and equipment relocation

Photography Studio Movers in Jeddah

Backdrops, strobes, stands and edit suites. We move all of it in an order that lets you shoot the next day — and we will not put your lenses on the truck.

What moving a studio costs

A small photography studio in Jeddah moves for SAR 500 to 900. A mid-sized studio with a shooting floor, an edit room and a prep room is SAR 800 to 1,400, and a large multi-bay studio SAR 1,200 to 1,900. A single item — one backdrop system or a set of stands — travels on a pickup for SAR 80 to 250.

The number is not the interesting part. A studio differs from everywhere else we move because the value of its contents bears no relation to their size: one lens can be worth more than every piece of furniture on the floor, and one strobe head can be killed by a single hard knock. So the load is split into three categories from the start, each handled completely differently.

Three categories: trucked, hand carried, and not moved by us

The first decision of a studio move and the most important.

📷

Cameras and lenses

These never go on the truck. They go in their padded cases in your own car. It is a fixed policy and we do not negotiate it, however good the packing would be.

💡

Lighting and sensitive heads

Strobes, continuous lights and softboxes travel in their original cases where they exist, otherwise in cases foam-lined on all six sides. Bulbs and tubes come out of the heads and are wrapped separately, because they break first.

🎞️

Furniture, backdrops and stands

These load normally with appropriate protection: edit desks, chairs, prop shelving, folded stands and backdrop rolls.

🧱

The cyclorama

A built, curved cyc wall does not move; it is rebuilt at the new address. A panel system comes apart with every panel numbered and travels flat, never on edge.

🖥️

Edit stations

Machines and calibrated displays are disconnected and their cabling photographed. A calibrated display travels upright in its original carton, because pressure on the panel ruins the calibration before it ruins the screen.

🗂️

Drives and backups

Storage drives and work archives do not go on the truck either. They travel by hand, and we recommend a cloud backup completed before moving day.

Price table

The published Wththab rates, applied by studio size.

Size of the movePrice in SAR

Large villa2,500 – 4,000

A studio with a shooting floor and an edit room sits in the two-bedroom band; a mid-sized studio in the three-bedroom band. Specialist lighting cases are quoted by the piece.

See office moving for the general commercial method.

Backdrops: paper, fabric and vinyl

Three materials, three entirely different methods.

Paper is the fragile one. A paper roll travels wound on its own core, horizontal and raised off the body floor, never standing and never leaning against anything. Any side pressure leaves a permanent crease, and a crease in a paper backdrop means throwing away the first metre.

Fabric is easier: folded into a bag, but it will need steaming or stretching at the other end, so do not expect to use it straight off the truck. Vinyl is rolled onto a core and never folded, because a fold leaves white lines that do not come back out.

Support systems and crossbars come apart into their sections, are strapped into a bundle, and are numbered where the components are not identical. Ten minutes there saves half an hour of assembly the next day.

Stands and metal gear

The things most likely to damage everything around them.

  • Every stand is collapsed fully and its locks closed before loading, because a half-open stand extends in transit and scrapes whatever is next to it.
  • Stands are strapped into a single bundle with fabric straps rather than travelling loose.
  • Booms and counterweights go into a rigid case at the bottom of the load, where their weight anchors what sits above them.
  • Ceiling rail systems are unscrewed with the right driver and the fixings stay with the piece they came from.
  • Collapsible reflectors go back into their round bags and never go under anything.

The order of the day

What makes shooting possible the following morning.

1

Switch off and let the lights cool

Heads are never dismantled hot. Power down at least an hour before, because removing a hot bulb means breaking it.

2

Photograph the current layout

One frame of the floor and one of the edit station before anything is touched. Those images are the reference for the rebuild.

3

Clear props and small items

Small pieces first, in boxes numbered by type rather than by location, because the new studio will be laid out differently.

4

Stands and backdrops next

Once the floor is clear of small items, so nobody treads on anything while moving.

5

Heavy furniture last

Edit desks and shelving are dismantled and loaded last and unloaded first, so they are standing before the equipment arrives.

6

Rebuild in reverse

Furniture, then stands, then backdrops, then lighting, then the hand-carried gear.

Furniture and carpentry

Desks, shelving and counters.

Monthly billing, enclosed warehouse, and sensitive equipment only in its own cases.

We say this plainly: optical and electronic equipment should not sit for long in a non-climate-controlled warehouse. Store the furniture, backdrops and stands, and keep the cameras and lenses with you. See short-term storage.

Props and set dressing

The part everyone forgets, and the longest half hour of the day.

Every studio accumulates more set dressing than its owner imagines until they start packing it: fabrics, vessels, artificial plants, small chairs, frames, portable floor panels and an uncountable quantity of clamps. None of it weighs anything, and together it takes longer than all the furniture.

Our method is to pack by type rather than by location. All fabrics in one box, all clamps and grip in another, all frames in a padded one. The reason is that the new studio will be laid out differently, so packing by the old shelf guarantees a complete re-sort later.

Artificial plants and portable floor panels load last because they fill gaps, and floor panels travel flat and strapped rather than stacked at an angle. See the moving checklist.

The home studio

A large share of working photographers in Jeddah shoot from a room at home.

Not every studio is a separate unit. Many photographers — particularly in product and small commercial work — work from a dedicated room in the house. When they move, the house and the studio move together, and that needs a double plan.

Keep them separate in the planning. Pack the studio on its own, into boxes marked with a different colour or symbol, and do not mix them with household cartons. The reason is practical: you will need to reach them in a different order from the household goods, and usually sooner.

Second, decide the new room before moving day and ask for the studio boxes to be unloaded straight into it rather than into the living room with everything else. Third, do not postpone rebuilding the stands and backdrops until the house is finished, because a studio that stays in boxes for two weeks is two weeks without work. See home moving.

Studio relocation questions

What studio owners in Jeddah ask before booking.

SAR 500 to 900 for a small studio and SAR 800 to 1,400 for a mid-sized one, confirmed after a free survey.

Not on the truck. We ask you to carry them in your own car, because vibration can shift optical groups without leaving any visible mark.

Wound on their core, horizontal and raised off the floor of the body, because side pressure leaves a permanent crease.

A panel system, yes, with every panel numbered. A built cyc wall is not moved; it is rebuilt at the new address.

One working day to load and unload, plus half a day to rebuild furniture and stands.

No. They are powered down and left to cool, then the bulbs come out and are wrapped separately from the heads.

Upright in their original carton where possible, with nothing placed on them, because pressure on the panel destroys the calibration.

We store furniture, backdrops and stands. For optical and electronic gear we recommend keeping it with you or storing only briefly.

Yes. Many studios move at night or at the weekend to avoid cancelling a shoot.

Yes, by visit or WhatsApp video, and the written price is fixed afterwards.
