Moving from Jeddah to Al Ahsa
Jeddah to Al Ahsa is a coast-to-coast run across the whole Kingdom. Wathab plans it as a long-haul job: sealed inventory, a load built to survive a full day on the road, and a delivery window the family in Hofuf or Al Mubarraz can actually rely on.
The longest regular run we do
Why distance changes the method, not just the price.
Al Ahsa sits in the Eastern Province, in the far east of the Kingdom, while Jeddah sits on the Red Sea. A move between them crosses the country, typically inland through Riyadh on the main east–west corridor before turning south-east towards Hofuf and Al Mubarraz. It is the longest routine route in our book.
On a short city move, a mistake costs you an hour. On this route, a mistake costs you a day, because there is no going back for the thing that was left behind. That single fact drives everything else: the inventory is sealed and numbered rather than loosely counted, the load is built once and not reopened, and both ends of the job are confirmed in writing before the vehicle leaves Jeddah.
Families moving this route are usually moving for work — a posting, a transfer, a new contract — and they rarely travel with the load. Most of our Al Ahsa customers fly and meet the truck. That means the handover has to work without the owner having watched the packing.
Sealed inventory and remote handover
How you check a delivery you did not watch load.
When the owner is not present at both ends, the inventory is the contract. We build it that way.
Numbered series at origin
Every carton and every loose item gets a number and a room label. The list is photographed and sent to you before the vehicle departs.
Condition photographs
Anything already marked, chipped or scratched is photographed at origin against its number, so arrival condition can be compared rather than argued.
Sealed load
The load bed is closed and sealed once built. It is not opened for a partial delivery en route.
Arrival check against the list
At the destination the same numbered list is read out and ticked. You or your representative sign it, or note what is missing on it.
Written exception note
Anything damaged or absent is written on the list at handover, not reported afterwards. A clean signed list closes the job.
If you cannot be in Al Ahsa on delivery day, nominate someone who can and tell us their name and number at survey. A delivery with nobody authorised to receive it is the most common cause of a wasted day on this route.
Building a load for a full day on the road
What long-haul does to furniture.
A load that would be perfectly safe across Jeddah can arrive in Hofuf rubbed, cracked or misaligned, and the reason is almost always vibration rather than impact. Hours of continuous road input works fasteners loose, abrades unprotected edges and finds any gap in a stack.
No voids in the stack
Gaps are filled so nothing can move. A load that cannot shift cannot abrade itself, and this matters far more over a thousand kilometres than over ten.
Edge and corner protection as standard
Every exposed edge on a wooden or lacquered piece is protected, not just the pieces the owner points out.
Fasteners bagged, not left in place
Dismantled items travel as panels with their fixings bagged and numbered. Screws left half-engaged work loose and score the panel beside them.
Upholstery sleeved
Sofas and majlis seating are sleeved rather than sheeted, because a loose sheet becomes an abrasive surface once vibration starts.
Appliances drained and locked
Washing machines have their drums secured where transit bolts exist, and all water-holding appliances are drained before loading.
Arriving in an oasis
Al Ahsa-specific conditions at the far end.
Al Ahsa is an oasis region, and the local conditions are genuinely different from Jeddah’s. Dust is a bigger factor inland than on the coast, which is why the load stays sealed until it is inside the property rather than being staged in the yard. Older houses in Hofuf and the surrounding villages often have courtyard access and doorways sized for an era before three-seat sofas, so oversized pieces may need to be dismantled rather than carried through.
Newer compounds and apartment blocks in Al Mubarraz and around the city bring the opposite problem: controlled access, visitor registration and lift booking. Tell us the compound name at survey and whether the management requires crew details in advance.
- Confirm doorway and stairwell widths at the destination if the house is an older courtyard property.
- Tell us if the delivery address is inside a gated compound and what notice the gate needs.
- Say whether unloading must happen within set hours, which some compounds enforce strictly.
- Note any item you already know will not fit through the door — we will plan to dismantle it rather than discover it.
Where a piece genuinely cannot pass a stairwell, external hoisting is the alternative, and it is arranged in advance rather than on the day.
Jeddah to Al Ahsa prices
Official Wathab pricing, in Saudi riyals.
| Load | Price (SAR) |
|---|---|
| Dabab run — a few items only | 80 – 250 |
| Studio or single room | 350 – 600 |
| Two-bedroom apartment | 500 – 900 |
| Three-bedroom apartment | 800 – 1,400 |
| Four to five bedrooms | 1,200 – 1,900 |
| Small villa | 1,500 – 2,500 |
| Large villa | 2,500 – 4,000 |
Dismantling and reassembly is quoted separately: 150 – 300 SAR for a bedroom set, 100 – 250 SAR for a sliding or flat-pack wardrobe, 200 – 400 SAR for an aluminium kitchen and 400 – 900 SAR for a full apartment package. Storage is 150 – 300 SAR a month for one to two rooms, 250 – 450 SAR for an apartment and 400 – 800 SAR for a villa.
Long-haul loads tend to sit in the upper half of their band, because the vehicle is committed to the route for the whole job and because full protective packing is not optional at this distance. Everything is confirmed at a free survey and written down before work starts. See also Jeddah to Dammam and Jeddah to Khobar, which share most of the route.
Sharing a vehicle, or taking one outright
The honest cost conversation.
For a small load — a bachelor flat, a single room, a few boxes and a bed — a dedicated truck across the Kingdom is poor value. The alternative is a consolidated run, where your load shares a vehicle already committed to the Eastern Province. It costs less and it delivers within a window rather than on a named hour.
For a family home with a fixed handover date at the other end, the dedicated vehicle is usually the right call despite the cost, because the date is the thing you are actually buying. We will tell you which one your job fits rather than selling you the larger option by default.
| Option | Best for | What you give up |
|---|---|---|
| Dedicated vehicle | Family homes, fixed dates, fragile or high-value loads | Higher price |
| Consolidated run | Small loads, flexible dates, students and single movers | A named delivery hour; you get a window instead |
| Store now, send later | Moves where the new home is not ready | Monthly storage cost until despatch |
Consolidated runs depend on scheduling, so availability is confirmed at booking rather than promised in advance.
What we need before quoting
Six questions that make the price firm.
- The exact destination district in Al Ahsa — Hofuf, Al Mubarraz or an outlying village — with a map pin.
- Room count at origin, and whether anything is going into storage instead.
- Floor level and lift availability at both ends.
- Whether the destination is a gated compound, and what notice its management requires.
- Who will receive the delivery if you are not there, with a name and number.
- Which pieces you want dismantled and reassembled.
Those six answers are what separate a written fixed price from a phone-call guess. Related pages: intercity moving from Jeddah, professional packing and dismantling and assembly.
If the new home is not ready yet
Storing in Jeddah instead of moving twice.
Postings to the Eastern Province frequently start before the housing does. The cheapest answer is almost never two long-haul runs; it is one run, timed later, with the load held in Jeddah in the meantime.
Monthly storage is 150 – 300 SAR for a one to two room load, 250 – 450 SAR for an apartment-sized load and 400 – 800 SAR for a villa-sized load. Against the cost of crossing the Kingdom twice, a few months of storage is usually the smaller number, and it also removes the pressure to accept a handover date that does not suit you. See long-term storage for how the units work.

Jeddah to Al Ahsa moving — frequently asked questions
What movers heading to Hofuf and Al Mubarraz ask us most.
It is a cross-country run, usually inland through Riyadh before turning towards Hofuf, and it is scheduled as a long-haul job rather than a same-day delivery. We confirm the despatch and delivery plan in writing at booking so you are not waiting on a phone call.
Yes, and it is normal on this route. Nominate a representative at survey with a name and number. They check the numbered inventory against the list at handover and sign it, exactly as you would.
Everything is numbered at origin and the list is sent to you before departure, with condition photographs of anything already marked. The same list is read out and ticked at delivery, and anything missing or damaged is written on it at handover.
Yes, noticeably, and for a small load it is usually the sensible choice. You trade a named delivery hour for a delivery window. For a family home with a fixed handover date, a dedicated vehicle is normally worth the difference.
Our standard scale applies: 350 – 600 SAR for a studio or single room, 500 – 900 SAR for a two-bedroom, 800 – 1,400 SAR for a three-bedroom, 1,200 – 1,900 SAR for four to five bedrooms and 1,500 – 4,000 SAR for a villa. Dismantling and reassembly is separate and the survey is free.
Yes, where reassembly is agreed at survey. Dismantled pieces travel as panels with their fixings bagged and numbered to the piece, which is what makes rebuilding at the far end straightforward.
Tell us at survey. Older courtyard properties often have doorways sized before modern three-seat sofas existed. We plan to dismantle the oversized pieces, or to hoist them, rather than finding out on delivery day.
Yes. Storage in Jeddah is 150 – 300 SAR a month for one to two rooms, 250 – 450 SAR for an apartment and 400 – 800 SAR for a villa. One timed run plus storage is almost always cheaper than crossing the Kingdom twice.
